Warning: Whining Ahead

Howdy Humble Readers...

I'm sorry folks, but I'm feeling really discouraged today, and I need to vent a little.

I went to the Gestational Diabetes clinic today to learn how to check my blood sugar, and about the dietary element of controlling it.  It was a lot of great information, and I was feeling a bit proud of myself, because looking at the nutrition stuff I was actually getting a lot of it right.  Granted I need to increase my protien intake (particularly at breakfast), but everything else was looking really really good.

So, what was my blood sugar level when I tested at the clinic (two hours after breakfast)?  9.9.  What was it after lunch?  9.2.  And after dinner?  10!  It should be less than 6.7.  I'm going to end up on insulin for sure.

Talk about feeling like a failure.

  1. You're not a failure. Controlling GD with just diet does not work for everyone...it has nothing to do with YOU. *hugs*

  2. It does suck that you can do everything right, but your body still won't cooperate. You are not a failure!!!

  3. It's not your fault - so don't think of yourself as a failure. All bodies are wired differently. But I totally get how you sort feel responsible b/c you feel you should be able to control it. [hugs] and if insulin it is, then at least there is something that can keep you and Halfling healthy and safe!

  4. Sweetie, it is not your fault remotely. Many women suffer from this, and it is generally not something you can totally control. I know it is frustrating, and scary. HUGS

  5. Sweetie, do NOT blame yourself. GD is similar to regular diabetes in that some people can control it with diet alone and so people can't. It's all tied in to the mechanics of the disease and whether you have a difficult to control case or not. I know it's frustrating to have one more thing your body isn't cooperating with but try not to blame yourself.

  6. In no way shape or form is it your fault that the GD GD isn't fully cooperating and getting under control with diet. You are doing everything you can. Thank goodness that insulin is available for the halfling and you don't both have to suffer because the disease is not responding!!!

YOU ARE NOT FAILING! YOU ARE PROVIDING A SAFE PLACE FOR THE BABY USING ALL OF THE TOOLS AT YOUR DISPOSAL.

  8. Ugh I'm sorry :( But definitely not your fault - you aren't a failure! Diabetes runs in my family so I know there is a very high chance that sometime I will end up with it - especially if I ever get pregnant. You are at the very beginning of trying to control it so your body will need some time to adjust. Sending you good-sugar-level thoughts!

  11. don't be so hard on yourself. you really cant control your body.. I'm on insulin didn't want to be but for me the finger pokes for blood tests are worse than the shots. Just remember to keep your body lotioned up and drink as much water as you can. It hurts more on dry skin.
