Memorable Moment Mondays: Potty Time!

Howdy Humble Readers...

Well here we are... Twenty and a half months into this whole Mummy-gig, and I'm facing one of my biggest fears.

POTTY TRAINING!

We started this morning after breakfast, and so far I think things are going pretty good.  We're at about a 50-50 success rate.  Ginny is getting used to the pavlovian response thing... I've got the alarm set on my cell to remind us every 25-30 minutes to go take a potty break.

One lesson already learned... Do not assume she doesn't get it.  She was sitting in her high chair at lunch, and saying "Potty!  Potty!" at the top of her lungs.  I thought she was just repeating the word... When we went to get her out of her chair, she had wet through her training pants.  Big oops on Mummy's part.

It is a big step for our wee sweet girl, and I'm so proud of her for just going with the flow.  ummmm.... no pun intended. :)

  1. That is a nice picture! Yep, potty training is the pits--but she seems to be off to a good start!

    1. It certainly is taxing. I was never so grateful for nap time to roll around yesterday. :)

  2. Hi from ICLW. My girl is 21 months (today!) and I haven't even THOUGHT about potty training. Everyone is telling me to wait until she's two and a half or so, but now you make me think I should be getting started much sooner. Any tips you want to share? Because training scares me to death!

    1. Each child is different. Ginny had been showing a lot of interest in the potty for the last couple of months, and that combined with her dislike of having a wet or dirty diaper on made me think that she might be ready. Yesterday was a moderate success, until we ran out of training pants (I'm not using pull-ups and I only had four pairs of the quilted undies). We'll see how things go this week. If she just doesn't seem to be getting it, then we'll back off for a month or so and try again later. If I come up with anything ground breaking, I'll be sure to let you know. :)

    1. We had a bit of a set-back today due to circumstances out of our control, but we'll be back at it tomorrow. I'm encouraged by her willingness to try and her eagerness to be out of diapers.

  4. Congrats on this huge milestone! My two year old twins are no where near 50-50, so I'd say you're doing pretty good.

  5. Oh girls are (generally) so much easier to train than boys, I hope she goes nice and quick for you. Dexter is not interested in toilet training at all, if you ask him to sit on the toilet he tells you that he is a little boy and little boys have nappies... what am I supposed to do with that? She's looking gorgeous (and so big!).

  7. Happy ICLW! Haha...this cracks me up! Our 21-month-old totally gets it...he just doesn't understand why Daddy stands up to potty and Mommy sits down. Hmmm.... LOL!

  8. Woot!!! So glad it's going well! And amazing that she was saying "potty" already! Awesome! And yes, potty training sucks the big one... but what I found was worse, was that they also don't know how to wipe themselves automatically. That was/is more difficult for me than potty training. My little guy trying his best to wipe, and really just dipping his whole hand of toilet tissue into the toilet water and then crying... Ugh. There just has to be an easier way. LOL. ;)

  9. You go girl! (Can I pull that off? I mean it!)

Wow! 20.5 months! We are coming up on that fast and I think I am starting to freak out. I will have a newborn then too though... so I will either move it up (unlikely!!!) or push it waaaaaay back. Keep at it Ginny!

  11. Oh boy! I think we will be working on this soon too. Ruby can tell me when she's done some business in her pants (that's how she greeted me this morning, "I poo'd!")and fully understand the working order of going to the bathroom. AND she's a pro at getting TP off the role :)

Good luck with everything, I hope it goes smoothly for you!

  13. Ah yes, fond memories of potty training. Sounds like you're off to a good start. At least she gets the concept. Not so much now, but for awhile I got a lot of questions on potty training, especially from folks who were struggling and had hit the wall. 14. Thank you for your comments on my blog!

This a fear I have as well. I have no idea how I will handle it one day. But everyone does manage to do it! Or at least most of us do.... :)

Hobbits are social creatures, and love hearing from friends old and new. Pull up a comfy chair and let's get to know one another.
