Hobbit-ish Potpurri: Two Months, An Opportunity, & An Event

Howdy Humble Readers...

I hope you are all doing really well.  We're pretty content here on the not-so-frozen flatland.  Ginevra and I were able to go out for a walk yesterday without fear of slipping on ice or freezing our tukkuses off.  A chinook has blown through (and for those of you who remember me asking... a chinook is a warm west wind that blows through central & southern Alberta, and can dramatically change the weather quickly.  It can be -20 in the morning and +10 degrees in the afternoon), so we had to take advantage of it.  It was wet and sloppy, but oh so nice to be out of the house.

Ginevra is two months old today.  I can't believe it's been two months already.  She's such a little dolly most of the time, and even when she's being a stinker I still wouldn't trade a minute of it.  The poor little hobbit has been struggling with a unhappy tummy for the last couple of days (moderate constipation) and it's put her in a foul mood, but overall she is a cheerful little girl.  One funny thing... she is trying to figure out how to suck her thumb, but she hasn't quite gotten that she actually has to stick her thumb out to do it.  She'll suck on her fist for ages and then get upset.  Her two month shots are coming up next week, and I'm a bit apprehensive about that.  Any tips on getting through it without melting down too much (me or her)?

My Beloved has a big opportunity ahead.  He's always been a gameshow junkie, and he does the Jeop.ardy online test every year, but he's never heard back from them.  A couple of days ago, he got an email inviting him to audition for the show.  This is a dream come true for him.  The kicker is that the audition is in Salt Lake City.  And in case you don't know your Canadian geography, Salt Lake is a heck of a long way from the middle of the frozen flatland in the middle of Alberta.  So, do we spend the money that we should be getting back for our income tax refund (money that we were going to put towards our debt) on a shot in the dark that he might get picked to be on the show?  What would you all do?

This Sunday is a big day for our baby girl.  She's getting baptized.  We had her christening gown made from my wedding dress, and it turned out beautifully.  I'm hoping to get lots of pics and maybe even video to share with you guys.  Afterward we're going to have a houseful for lunch... at least ten people in our little condo.  Yikes!

So, in honour of Ginny's two months, I have a few pics to share...

Snoozing with Daddy

The closest I could capture of her smiles...

Serious sleeping.... so serious...

Check out those lashes!

  1. Wow, she is such a cutie! I wish I could give you advice for the jeopardy question ... that's a really tough one. I'm not sure what I would do.

  2. What a beautiful little girl!! I would totally go to Salt Lake! Even if he never gets on the show, at least you tried! It's not something that happens every day!

Oh yeah, y'all made a beautiful little girl! Congrats on her baptism.

  4. I have to say I'd send my hubby to the audition. It's onviously one of his dreams and occasionally we need to indulge our dreams even if it means we have to wait a little to achieve other goals.

your little miss is adorable, good luck for her baptism.

  5. Go for the audition! Even if he doesn't get on, it will still be fun!

As for the two month shots, our doctor told us he'd cry during the shots (the first shot he was too surprised, he did cry during the second) and then he'd forget it. It's true. As they get older, the crying and grumpiness goes on longer. We gave Adam some Tylenol before the shots and I nursed him right after. It was hard to see the look on his face, though. Papa couldn't watch but I wanted to be calm for Adam.

Having the baptism gown made from your wedding dress is a beautiful idea! Just like Ye Olde Pioneer days! Welcome Ginevra to the Church Family!

  6. Oh my, that is the cutest little hobbit I have ever seen!

Mr. Beloved has to go to Salt Lake. You guys will regret it forever if he doesn't go. Remember the old proverb: It is better to regret something you did than something you didn't do. Seriously, he should GO FOR IT!

OK, the shots... yeah they suck. The first set is only bad because you know they don't know it's coming. My doctor encouraged me to nurse him the second the were done. It helped. Be prepared. The face was heartbreaking. But, to me it seemed better just to pat and say "It's OK. Just one more. You're doing so good." Than to break down, too. You gotta be the rock and comfort (just my 2 cents). Then get that boobie out fast! I will give you this word of warning... the shots themselves were small compared to the side effects for Graham. He gets icky for 2-3 days afterwards. He gets a slight fever that night, then is cranky and tired for a couple of days. They say this is "rare" but everyone I know with babies says their baby is the same.

  7. If you guys don't go for the audition the hubby will definitely regret it. Go for it! It's his dream! :-)
    adorable baby, btw

  8. Oh, my goodness, what a cutie. I'm all grins over here.

As for the Jeopardy thing - he may only get one shot at this dream. 2 chances for dreams to come true in one year? How can you pass that up?? Listen, debt, well, debt is always there. And you only live once. One magnificent time. Make the most of it.

  9. she is a little cutie! Congrats on the baptism coming up. cant wait to see her dress and I totally say go for it! The audition is a once in a lifetime thing!!

  10. *sigh* the lashes! The hair! So cute!

I would definitely go to the audition. That is really, really exiting. I'd totally tune in to cheer him on!

I can't wait to see the little gown.

  11. Hey! I'm near Salt Lake City, so I say... go for it! We could have lunch!

Also, LJ's dress was made from my wedding dress, too! I guess great minds think alike!

  12. what a beauty!!!
Hmmm, I would probably go, but only if I/we could enjoy the trip as well.

  13. OMG she is so beautiful!! I love her name too ... and "Ginny" .. Love it :)

Sometimes life comes along and gives you little opportunities, and I think most people may not take them, but I say - you need to follow them and *try* ... it's the little adventures that count!
