Week 16 Update & Financial Matters

Happy Monday, Humble Readers!

How far along? 16w0d

Maternity clothes? Yup.  I alternate between mat clothes and regular pants with a bella band.  Oddly enough, I can't wear my work/dressier clothes without a bella band, but I can still wear my jeans just fine.  Hmmmm...

Body Oddities? Nothing too crazy, just some nasal congestion and excessive dry mouth.  I've been really thirsty too.  My eyes have also been dry and sore, but that's probably just allergies.

Sleep? I can't seem to get enough sleep.  The insomnia has eased off a bit (I'm not waking up a whole lot in the night any more) but I could sleep 12 hours a day and still feel exhausted.
Best moment this week? Getting to see the halfling again when I was at my OB's office.  It was just a quick peak, but it was great to know that all was well.  He/she was moving around a lot and it was fun to watch the little arms and legs waving around.

Worst moment? a pretty bad IBS flare that kind of came out of no where (I haven't had a flare in over a month).  The cramps were so bad that I was getting a bit worried.

Movement? Not yet.  I don't really expect any for another few weeks.

Food cravings? still chocolate milk, strawberries, red meat

Rings? Still on, but I won't count on that lasting.

Gender? Not going to find out, but I think it's a boy

Intense Dreams?  They've started again, and have featured a very ugly baby, Frank Burns (from MASH), and the Mythbusters

Medical Concerns?  Blood pressure is a bit high, and I will be going for multiple (3+) GD tests... yuck!

What I miss? I want sushi something awful!

What I look forward to: Feeling movement, my longer ultrasound on July 5th

It's been a bit of a rough week financially for the Hobbit and the Ent.  I found out on Friday that I wasn't going to be getting my annual bonus.  I knew it was possible that we wouldn't get it because it was a tough year for our store with the recession finally hitting the oil patch here on the flatland, but I was still hoping.  I had earmarked that money to pay for our new furnace that we have to pay for this summer.

Then we got our property tax bill... ugh!

And we have (FINALLY!) come to the agreement that it's time to get rid of Petey the PT Cruiser.  He's sucking us dry.  It seems that every six months we are dumping between $500 and $900 in to him.  The the a/c has gone now and the temp light comes on if we get stuck at a red light (something we supposedly had fixed last year).  Which leads me to a question for all my Humble Readers...

Have any of you leased a vehicle?  We are leaning toward leasing, but I want some imput.

  1. Sorry to hear about your financial worries - going through a similar thing myself (who isn't? stupid recession!) and it's the worst when you've a little one on the way.

No ideas on leasing cars - but how about getting a horse and cart instead?! More environmentally friendly...;)

  2. So happy to hear about your little Halfling doing so great!! Hope the IBS stays away. I use to get nose bleeds from having such a dry nose. Vaseline on a q-tip helped me to keep it moisterized. Sorry about what's going on w/ the PT cruiser. :( My mom and sister have been Leasers for a couple of years now, and they're happy with it. My mom usually is about being debt-free so she wasn't up on the lease thing, but she realized that it works out just fine.. g'luck making a decision!

  3. I am not a big fan of leasing. My mother was burned pretty badly with a lease. Basically, pay cash up front, then make a regular car payment- and have nothing to show for it. I would really recommend buying an economical car, like a Ford Focus or Honda Civic. My Civic had 83K miles on it when I bought it, I ran over 200K city miles on it as a caseworker, and it worked just fine for our son. It never needed repairs and had fantastic gas mileage.

  4. I have never leased a car, and have heard good and bad things about it. That will be a tough decision, good luck! It is a bummer when your old car starts costing more than it's worth.

We have are big ultrasounds within days of each other! I can't wait, I haven't gotten to see the little one in sooo long.

It seems like most companies are putting off bonuses and even annual raises these days. Make it tough, especially when those big bills start rolling in.

The thought of sushi makes my mouth water!

  5. Honestly, I haven't ever heard really good things about leasing a vehicle...but, if it works for you, that's cool.

Good luck with all the GD tests.

    And, check your email.

  6. I have never leased a car, and while I don't know much about it, I don't think I'd do it. Purchasing a car that will most likely last a long time seems a better bet to me. My husband and I have shared a 2006 Toyota Matrix for the last almost-five years with never a problem (fingers crossed, knock on wood) except something very minor that was still under warranty. We love it. I did a lot of research before buying it and made sure to get something that would last, be reliable, and earn its keep. now that we're about to have twins and are thinking about getting a second car, I'm considering just getting another Matrix.

Not too helpful, sorry! But I'm happy to hear all is well with the Halfling - btw, I'm re-reading LOTR in hopes of watching the movies again during labor (I figure they're long enough to keep me really occupied).

  7. nope never leased a car. good luck with that! and glad to hear things are going well with pregnancy.
things are tough all around.. I keep waiting for them to tell me I am out of a job and then I wonder what will happen with our debt and the house payment we won't last long.... ugh. but I am sorry about the bonus. Mine is due at the end of June and I doubt I will see it either.

  8. 16 weeks, that's great! I hope you're able to get some sleep soon, that's very frustrating.

I have no input as far as leasing a car, we've always bought. Good luck, I hope it goes smoothly for you.

Hobbits are social creatures, and love hearing from friends old and new. Pull up a comfy chair and let's get to know one another.
