Making Progress... aka "Why Nothing Ever Gets Done Around Here"

Good Evening Humble Readers...

I have had a fairly mellow day. And. while this may be the most boring post I have ever written, I enjoyed every minute of it!
I did my workout ('walking for weightloss' dvd... don't let the title fool you, it's the workout that makes me sweat), ordered a piece of cookware that I have wanted for ages but never got around to buying (I'll share more when it arrives), and puttered around on the computer.

I decided that it was time to get cracking on one or two of my 2010 to do's... I'm starting small, with things I used to do that I have gotten out of the habit of doing.
First up, I am happy to report that in the last week, the bed has been made 5 out of 7 days! Woo hoo! (how pathetic, right?) Let's see how long it lasts.

Second, I spent some time working on a menu for this week, so that we can do the grocery shopping tomorrow evening. I thought this was going to be a quick task. *snort* Not with my penchant for distraction.

I mapped out the week, and decided that I wanted to try a couple new recipes this weekend. So I went to my cookbook cupboard...

This is what my cookbook cupboard looked like after this stack of magazines fell on my head.

It appears that over the last year or so, I have accumulated a crapload of magazines, all with recipes I wanted to try. They just end up shoved into my cookbook cupboard. So, I decided that it was time to do something about them.

After muttering a few not so nice word under my breath and checking to make sure there were no bruises or lacerations where they hit me, I started going through them. Any recipe I want to try, I tore out. When I got through them all (two hours later) I had a full recycling bin and a stack of new recipes to try less than half an inch thick. Yay!

So all this round-about rambling is to draw your attention to a new feature in the left hand column. That's what's on for dinners this week in the hobbit hole. Let me know if you're planning on coming for dinner. I'll set an extra place.

  2. Dinner looks great this week, but man I'm tired just thinking about all the work. I always try to do a couple of things that can work into a partial leftover ingredient for another day.

  3. I did the same thing with cooking mags a few years ago. Then I went out and bought a hole puncher and 3-ring binder and categorized the recipes under, "Appetizers," "Soups/Stews," "Salads," etc. Now I have a whole cookbook of favorites!

  4. Hello!

My name is Elisabeth, and I am an infertility / repeated pregnancy loss "veteran". You can read a little bit about me and my experiences in my blog: drhousewife.blogspot.com . I am completing a PhD in Counseling Psychology, and my dissertation is focused upon the impact of infertility on marriage. I believe strongly that there is a need for better support services for men and women who are undergoing IF diagnosis and treatment, and my hope is that this study will aid in the development of such services.

I am contacting you after stumbling across your blog. I am recruiting participants for my study, and wanted to invite you and your husband to take part. All that would be involved would be the completion of an online survey, that would take approximately 20 minutes. All couples who complete the surveys will receive a voucher good for a pair of free movie tickets at a Regal Cinemas.

Please let me know if you are interested by emailing me at UTInfertilityResearch@gmail.com .

    Best,
    Elisabeth

  5. You may not have gotten what you had planned on getting done, but you did get rid of some clutter and that's good. I enjoy cooking too. I like the new side bar. I'll have to check it out to get some ideas :)

  6. I am quite certain that your cookbook cabinet and my cookbook cabinet are related. I fear for my life when I open that particular set of doors-I inevitably end up dodging a magazine rain. Sigh...

As for planning out the dinners, I'm doing the same thing around my house. I don't know how long it will last, but it's nice not to do the "Um...what are we eating tonight?" dance every single night.

  7. Fear of things falling on me is why all my cook books and magazines are on shelves lower down. :)

Mmmm, shrimp and pasta. Friday looks good! And can't wait to hear how the chili-lime chicken went.

Hobbits are social creatures, and love hearing from friends old and new. Pull up a comfy chair and let's get to know one another.
