No, I haven't won the lottery...
(I've only experienced one of those three...)
I have decided that the time has come for us to seriously consider getting a furbaby. I have hit that wall where I need something little to care for. Something to cuddle. Something to baby... for lack of a better word.
So... it should be easy right? Decide on what particular flavour of furbaby I want, do my research, purchase the requisite supplies (collar, food dish, liscence, veterinary care), and then go out and bring said furbaby home. Like I said, easy right?
Not so much.
Our condo board currently doesn't allow dogs. And I'm allergic to cats.
*sigh* I just can't win.
But guess what? We have a plan!
(why does this sound so much like an infertility post?)
Our condo board has recently decided to self manage. Our building is small... only six units. And my Beloved has just offered to look after the accounting for the building. We are hoping (fingers seriously crossed) that we may earn enough goodwill from them the other owners that we may be able to petition the board to allow us to have a dog!
So like any good internet junkie, I'm now doing research... my ideal dog would be something small, short haired, quiet (so it doesn't drive our neighbours nuts). I'm leaning toward a pug, or something like it (a boston terrier or a french bulldog might do well too). If anyone has any input, I would welcome it.
What a great idea! I don't know much about dogs...just make sure it is one that does not bark much. Unfortunately, my condo neighbors have a small yappy dog that we often get the displeasure of hearing. Quiet dogs are good. I really hope it works out for you!!!
ReplyDeleteWe got a dog as a "consolation prize" for infertility, three years ago. Definitely one of the positive things to come out of our battle with IF! I absolutely love our dog, she is such a little sweetie. I never liked dogs until DH convinced me to get her. :)
ReplyDeleteMy advice: take a lot of online quizzes about selecting a dog breed. And be open minded!!! Prior to selecting our pooch, I didn't like poodles or schnauzers. But we ended up with a schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle mix, 15 lbs) and she rocks the cute white fluffiness.
Here's hoping your hubby gathers a tonne of goodwill. Furbabies are great. I miss being able to have a pet. :(

I will fourth or fifth the suggestion to research dog breeds. We have an IF cat (our third) named Noodle, who enjoys being HELD like a baby, at least. It helps. It really does.

ReplyDeleteI've been lucky to get two very quiet dogs. Both mutts. Short-haired hound/terrier mixes. (My friend calls them "Schmeezer Dogs.") I think it's also how you raise them: if you are calm and quiet, they will be, too. If you are loud and rowdy, they'll think that's normal.
