Howdy Humble Readers...
Well, I'm officially 39. The year when no one will believe me when I tell them my age. *sigh* I'm not one to put a lot of emphasis on my age. 30 didn't bother me, I don't see why 40 should. And besides, I've still got a year to get there.
Am I where I thought I'd be at this age?
In some respects, yes. I'm married, with two adorable wee-lings. I have a mortgage and car payments. I've travelled some. I'm still 'fluffy', just not as fluffy as I was a year ago.
In other respects, I'm not. I'm not a published author. And I had thought that my children would be older by the time I reached the end of my thirties (I mean, when my bio-mom was 39, I was 21). I don't have a brilliant career, never have had. But I love being a stay at home mom, and heck, Julia Child didn't even start to cook until she was 37, so I still have plenty of time to make my mark somewhere.
Yesterday was a nice mellow day. The wee-lings and I just hung out, playing and reading books. My Beloved brought me flowers, take-out Chinese food (terrible for my blood sugars but oh so yummy), and a double chocolate cupcake from a super awesome cupcakery here in town.
I ended the day by diving into a new book. Finally getting to start the Cuckoo's Calling. I've been looking forward to this since July.
*****
Today is also a special day. It's my fifth blogoversary. Five years ago I set up this little corner of the internet in hopes of using it to share the joy of our growing family with my friends and relations. Sadly, the day after I set it up was the day I lost Emily.
This virtual hobbit-hole has been my place of solace. You all have become my friends, my consolation, and my cheerleaders. Through the spectacularly painful to the giddy mountain tops of joy to the mundane day to day, you all have walked with me, sharing my tears and laughter.
Thank you all for joining me on this journey. I wonder where I'll be in another year.
While I might not be a hobbit genetically, I do believe that I am one culturally. A homebody at heart, with a fear of (but slight craving for) adventure, who values simple things like good food, good books, and good friends. Chronicling the journey of the unlikely pairing of a Hobbit and an Ent, who have travelled down the road through infertility & RPL, toward building our family. We've come a long way, and now with two precious wee-lings in tow, our road goes ever on and on...

A Hobbit-ish Hat Giveaway!
Howdy Humble Readers!
I am soooooo excited to finally post this.
I've shown you guys my limited knitting skills before. Well, let me tell you, I CANNOT crochet. I couldn't make a crocheted washcloth if my life depended on it (and trust me I've tried).
Thank heaven my lovely friend Minta over at Life Family and the Pursuit of Sanity has some serious skills!
Minta has ensured that my two little wee-lings are stylin' this summer with some pretty awesome headgear! And she has graciously offered up one of her beautiful creations for one of your little ones for a giveaway.
To enter the give away, all you need to do is pop on over to the Baby Hooked Boutique, take a look around, and tell me in the comments here which of her adorable hats you love the most. (Ginny is rocking the little girl sunhat, and Pippin is looking stylish in the newsboy hat.) And if you are a superstar, looking for extra entries, here are some options...
Giveaway winners will be announced on July 18th!
*****
The Hobbit-Ent family is heading out today for our annual road trip through the mountains. K-town, swimming pool, and air conditioning, here we come! I'll be trying to post semi-regularly while I'm away, but I hope you all have a great weekend! I'll be back to catch up with you all on July 23rd.

Foodie Fridays: So Simple It's Scary!
Hey Humble Readers...
It's been ages and ages since I did a Foodie Fridays post, but I have been trying a bunch of new things recently (thank you Pinterest!) and I wanted to share one of them with you.
This recipe is so simple, and takes almost no time at all. You can totally doctor it up anyway you like. Another thing I liked about it was that it was super budget friendly.
Italian Crescent Pie
1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls
1 lb lean ground beef (you could sub in ground turkey or chicken if you like)
1 med onion, diced fine
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup pasta sauce (homemade or your fave store bought variety)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tsp each dried oregano and basil
Separate and arrange the crescent rolls in a spoke pattern (wider points meeting in the middle of the plate, long thin points hanging over the side of the pie plate by 2-3 inches) in a 9 inch pie plate. Gently press the dough together so it covers most of the pie plate to form a crust (there will be gaps... no big deal). Brown the ground beef and drain well. Add in onion and garlic, and saute until the onions are softened. Stir in pasta sauce. Spread 1 1/2 cup of the shredded mozza over the bottom of the crust, then add the meat/sauce mix. Fold the points of the crescent rolls over the top so they meet in the middle, and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of mozza and the dried herbs. Bake in a preheated 375F oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Allow to stand for 5-10 minutes before cutting. Serve with a salad.
I was very pleasantly surprised at how well this turned out. The only glitch I had was the fact that my Beloved had put the tube of crescent rolls into the freezer (and those things should NOT be frozen... they turn to mush when they thaw), so we had a mad rush to the grocery store on the night I made this.
I can already see some yummy variations on this idea... make it mexican with some cumin and chili powder, monterey jack cheese and some corn and peppers. Greek with some greek spice mix, sun dried tomatoes and feta. Make it a bacon cheeseburger pie with some bacon bits, cheddar, diced dill pickles, ketchup and mustard. So many options!
*****
In other news... if you've got the time, swing by Panda Diaries and share some love with Laurie. She's had one hell of a day (scary, SCARY day).

Hobbit-ish Potpurri: Ups & Downs & All Arounds
Hey Humble Readers,
I hope you're all well and thawed out if you have been in the deep freeze for the past week. We didn't get Tilly the Toyota started until Saturday because it was so freaking cold around here. Ginny and I stayed snuggled up in the house all week, but I feel for anyone (like my Beloved's nephew... putting up/repairing power lines) who has to work outside. It looks like we're going to get a respite for the next week, but then temps are expected to dive again. Gotta love life on the Canadian prairies!
*****
I (and many other bloggers) have a favour to ask of you all, or at least those of you who use Blogger and have your comment form embedded below your posts. For the time being, can you change your settings to 'pop-up window' or 'full page'? Google has acknowledged that there is a problem with their new comment system and because of that, blogs are freezing up when configured with an embedded comment form. (Have you noticed that you have had a drop in comments this past week? This is why.) Google is trying to fix it, but who knows when it will be working.

Ginny has been walking a whole lot more lately. As in, only crawling when she's underneath the kitchen table or has just had a bigger stumble and is unsure on her feet. She thinks she's all that... walking around with her arms flung wide and a big grin on her face, as if to say "Ta-da! Look at me!"
*****
Sadly, we lost a family member yesterday. My Beloved's Uncle Jack, who was 85 and had been frail for quite some time, passed yesterday morning. We knew it was coming, but his loss will be felt keenly at all our family gatherings. He was a funny old soul, and was always getting himself (and anyone around him) into mischief. He was one of the first of the extended family that I met when I came into the family, and I loved him instantly. Of course, it didn't hurt that he loved my cooking. :)

In church news, our congregation is one step closer to a full time pastor. It has been a long time for us to go without a regular pastor (Pastor J. left in February of 2010). Our interim, semi-retired fill in pastor has been good, but it has had an impact on our congregation to be without full-time leadership. The candidate will be coming early next month to preach and for a meet and greet with the congregation. My Beloved has been on the call committee, and this has been a challenging journey. I'll be glad if this potential pastor is a good fit, not only for the benefit to our congregation, but also because it will be one less set of meetings my Beloved will have all the time.

I am in desparate need of a haircut. Not just a trim, which is what I've been doing rather infrequently over the last couple of years, but a full on 'give-me-a-new-look' haircut. The only time in my life when I have truly liked my hair was around the time when my Beloved and I me, were dating, and got married. But at that point I had the expendable income to see my long-time trusted hairdresser every six or eight weeks. I would get my hair coloured and highlighted regularly. I know I can't/shouldn't colour my hair right now, but I NEED to do something. My biggest frustration is trying to find hairstyle pics for plus sized women. I don't want to cut all my hair off... I want it to be something easy but cute, and can still be put back in a clip or a pony for everyday. I'm not demanding, am I?
*****
Please stop by my friend Alana's blog and offer her some love and support. She experienced a miscarraige earlier this month and is facing some hard decisions.

Mini Celebrations
Hey Humble Readers...
I wracked my brain trying to come up with some really cute ICLW intro, but I'm tapped out. Instead I have a few celebrations to share with you all...
PS - please check out yesterday's post. I'm looking for input and advice. Thanks!
I wracked my brain trying to come up with some really cute ICLW intro, but I'm tapped out. Instead I have a few celebrations to share with you all...
- The Steadfast Warrior of Destined to be An Old Woman With No Regrets is back!! And writing from Scotland! Woohoo!
- Carrie of Tubeless in Seattle has also reappeared! How can her triplets be two???
- I have had three days in the last week where my morning blood sugars were at or nearly at target! (is it sad that my happiness is tied to the numbers on my glucose meter?)
- After much angst, I have finally found the jars I need for one of my Christmas crafts. Not exactly what I wanted, but they will work!
- I made my best version of my black bean salad ever tonight. It was so good that I ate the leftovers when I woke up from my after-dinner snooze. Thank heaven it's all good healthy stuff!
PS - please check out yesterday's post. I'm looking for input and advice. Thanks!

Hobbit-ish Potpurri: It's Baaaaaack!
Hey Humble Readers,
I hope things are going well where ever you are. Things on the frozen flatland are, well, frozen. Winter has officially started here in our little city. It snowed through the night on Thursday, and Friday morning we woke up to a thin blanket of white and arctic temps. I finally caved and turned on the furnace (it hasn't been that cold at all until the last couple of days). I've begun obsessing about the weather, stressing about the fact that we don't have the winter tires on the car yet (hopefully we can get in on Monday), and my fear of falling on the ice has reared it's ugly head once again. Ugh... and to think I used to love winter when I was a kid.
*****
We took Ginny for a haircut today, her second. It actually was only a bang trim, as I have decided to let her hair grow out and hopefully bring control to the two cowlicks she has on the back of her head. She was very cute at the hair dressers. We take her to a place that specializes in kids' cuts, and they have all these special chairs. Ginny was able to sit in a pink car shaped seat, and she totally knew how to play with the steering wheel and the gear shift. It was quite amusing. The hairdresser was also kind enough to trim my bangs, which had gotten sadly out of control.
*****
My kidney infection seems to be improving in fits and starts. I will be feeling relatively fine, and things will be 'normal' in the bathroom (sorry tmi) for about half the day, and then things will get bad again. Of course this is making me think more and more that it's a kidney stone, and not much of an infection. This is seemingly confirmed by the periodic cramping-kicked-in-the-back-knock-me-over pain.
*****
My Beloved, the sweet man that he is, brought me flowers the other day when I was feeling really crummy. How do I deserve such a man?
*****
I wonder how Ginny is going to handle the time change this evening. She's been sleeping really well for the last few days, and I'm hoping to be able to take advantage of the extra hour of sleep tonight. DON'T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK! :)
*****
Please send prayers and good thoughts to our bloggy sister Good Timing over at Love Grows Love. She's 16 weeks pregnant, and had a very scary day on Thursday with a leak of amniotic fluid. The last we heard, she was put on bedrest while waiting for an u/s on Friday.

Bloggity Summer Camp: I'm An Adult?
Hey Humble Readers...
Today at Bloggity Summer Camp, our awesome camp director Calliope has asked...
"What has most surprised you about being an adult? What have you learned about yourself through blogging?"
When I was a wee little hobbit, I had this idea that once you were an adult you knew what life was all about. That you had figured it all out and that maturity just sort of happened. And oddly enough I associated that with having kids. Any time I met someone who had kids, I almost always assumed that they were older than me.
At least I did until a few years ago... but that's another saga that you're all too familiar with.
But seriously, anytime I meet someone who has kids, or seems like they have it all together, I always assume that they're older than me. However, now that I'm closer to forty than thirty, I'm coming to realize that there is no magic switch that makes you feel like an adult. It just happens over time. One day you wake up and you realize that you have a mortgage, bills, and aging parents.
As for blogging... I think the biggest thing that I have learned from blogging the last couple of years is that I have a voice. I have a story to tell, and it's worth listening to (reading). And that when your story is heard by just one other person, you aren't alone.

Awards Season!
Good Evening Humble Readers...
In the last couple of days, I have been bestowed two wonderful awards from some lovely new bloggy friends! Thank you so much, ladies, for thinking of me! Both of the awards have basically the same requirements, so I'm going to do both together.
MoonNStarMommy from A Page In My Book gave me...
Here are the rules for the acceptance of the award:
1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you the award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 15 other bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award.
Alrighty then... seven things about me.
*****
Ginny has done really well with her vaccinations. She cried (read: SHRIEKED) when they did the three needles, but fifteen minutes later she was just fine. She's been a little fussy today, but so far no fever or any other side effects.
*****
Don't forget to stop by Dragondreamer's Lair and enter Kristin's giveaway! Who couldn't use $125 to spend at CSN.com?

Alrighty then... seven things about me.
- I'm adventurous when it comes to food, but there are a few things that I just can't bring myself to enjoy. In general, fruit and meat shouldn't be consumed together. Turkey with cranberries? Ick! Ham with pineapple? Ugh! Pork chops with applesauce? *shudder* Don't get me started on chutneys with things like chicken curry. The one exception to the rule is citrus... because citrus fruits like lemon and orange lend themselves to savory applications. (I never said I made any sense).
- I love writing with fountain pens. I've only ever used cheap ones, but I dream of one day owning a really fancy fountain pen.
- On my life list... Go to Tanzania and work with the Lutheran Masai Girls School. It's a school that takes in abandoned/orphaned Masai girls. My college is affiliated with the school and I would love to go over on one of the trips they organize. I would also really love to go on safari.
- I used to collect postcards. I had them from all over the place, and had some pretty crazy ones. I wish I knew what happened to them all. I'd like to get back into it. Wanna help me?
- I used to be a cat person. Used to be. Right through junior high and high school, we always had cats. Then somehow I developed an allergy to them. Now I can't be around them for more than a few minutes without having my face puff up like a blow fish.
- I currently hold the high score on Wii bowling. That's right folks, I beat my Beloved! Woohoo!
- I am a wimp when it comes to throwing out the leftovers that sit too long in the fridge. I make my poor long suffering Beloved do it every time.

I Found It...
... but there's a problem.
And I am hoping, Humble Readers, that one of you will be able to help me out.
After what has felt like weeks of searching for the crib bedding that I want (light green, in polka dots, stripes or solid), I have found a set that I really like. AND it's a reasonable price!
The problem is, I can't find a single company that will ship it to Canada. It's very aggravating.
So, I'm wondering... would any of my bloggy friends south of the 49th parallel be willing to let me use their address, and then ship it to me? Obviously, I will cover all costs for shipping. I just need someone to be my go-between.
Drop me an email or leave me comment with yours... and know that the Halfling & I will heart you forever and ever and ever!

Randomness & August Q & A: Part the Second
Good Morning Humble Readers...
I hope you are all having a good weekend. I'm off today and tomorrow so we have much on our to-do list. Stove shopping, grocery shopping, dog-sitting (Sunny is with us again for a couple of days), and nursery stuff... like I said, much to do.
*****
So, earlier in the week I said I was going to answer questions on Friday... well, we all saw where my week ended up, so I'm a couple of days late.
Wiseguy asked a couple of great questions: 1. What is that one dish you wish you could make better than you are already making? There are lots of things that I don't make well... cream sauces (always end up lumpy), baking (mostly too exact for me), seafood (I'm getting better, but still overcook shellfish often). I'm intimidated by making asian-style food (I really want to learn to make Thai food), but I really want to improve.
2. What is your least favourite book (till date)? Oh that's hard. There aren't many that I don't like. I do remember hating "Animal Farm" when I was in middle school. Most recently, I would have to say "The Passage" by Cronin... so many people were raving about it, so I tried to read it. I got about 100 pages in and I just got fed up. It could have been the vampire thing (I'm vampired out!), but I think it was just too slow getting started for me.
JRS asked: are there any helpful books/website you are reading to help you care for the baby when he/she comes? Honestly, I haven't started reading about what to do when the Halfling actually arrives. I picked up the Dr. Sears baby book, and I'm planning on starting to read it once I'm on mat leave. I have done some online reading about breastfeeding, and specifically about the challenges for plus-sized women and bf-ing. I really like http://www.breastfeedingbasics.com/. Other than that, I've been focussing on reading about labour and delivery.
*****
Something big in this hobbit's world... I discovered yesterday that Jean Auel, author of the Earth's Children series is FINALLY going to be publishing the sixth and final book in the series. I have to wait until the end of March, but hey, I've waited for 8 years already... what's a few more months? I'm glad I started rereading the series earlier this year.
*****
I have added a poll to my side bar... :)
*****
A few shout outs to some bloggy friends... Ms. Dreamer sent me this link when I was feeling down a couple of days ago . I love love LOVE these posters, and have told my Beloved that he can get me the "Shire" one for my birthday next month.
And Minta over at Life, Family, and the Pursuit of Sanity has welcomed Little G into the world! The last couple of weeks have been rough for her, being on modified bedrest due to PIH, but now all is well!

ICLW Randomness (Stolen From Minta)
Good morning Humble Readers...
I love memes! And I love ICLW! So, of course I felt the need to do one for my first ICLW post of the month. I stole this one from Minta a few weeks ago, and have been just waiting for the right time to use it. Oddly enough, this one is missing a question for #4, so I made up my own. :)
1) If you could live in any country but the Canada, where would you live? Somewhere in the UK, or maybe New Zealand. Someplace green and fresh.
2) Why did you title your blog “Hobbit-ish Thoughts & Ramblings”? I remember the first time I read "The Hobbit" many years ago... I fell in love with the inhabitants of the Shire, and recognized a lot of myself in them. I feel as though I could be related to them, two or three times removed. I'm short, round, love good food, good books, and good friends. I like things to be mellow, orderly, and calm, but have a slight craving for the occassional adventure. Even though I don't have hairy feet, I do prefer to go shoeless and sockless much of the time. About the only hobbit-ish trait that I don't fully exhibit is the ability to grow things... I love the idea of gardening and can appreciate a beautifully tended garden, but I can't make it happen myself. Heaven knows, I've tried. When it came time to name my blog, I wanted it to be a place where I could talk about the things that are important to me (as simple or as complex as they may be), and I immediately thought of my hobbit 'cousins'.
3) How many “in real life” people know about your blog? Locally, not many. There are a few co-workers who know about my blog, but as far as I know only one reads (Hi, S!). Maybe I will let others know about it once I go on mat leave. No one in my family, other than my Beloved know about it. A few of my friends from far away know about and read my blog. It's been a good way to reconnect with some of them.
4) Why did you decide to start blogging? I set up this blog almost two years ago, during my first pregnancy. I had hoped to record the journey we were on building our family. A few days after I set it up, and before my first post, we lost Emily Hope. I wrote a couple of posts while I was in the midst of that grief, and then when we decided to start trying again. Sadly, this little hobbit-hole languished for a few months with no action. I didn't come back to it again until, after we lost our second little one, Olivia Noelle. A good friend from one of the message boards I frequented encouraged me to check out the ALI (adoption, loss, infertility) community and there's been no looking back since. I have found incredible support, friendship, and knowledge in this community, and I know I couldn't be here now without it.
5) What kind of clothes do you wear? Casual or Business Casual for work. I love my jeans and tshirts.
6) What are you having for dinner tonight? Beloved is having perogies and sausage. I'll be at work, so I'll get a salad from Qui.znos.
7) Where do you “blog”? Sitting on my comfy red couch, in my school bus yellow living room.
8) Do you like to cook? Ummm yeah! That love has been put to the test lately, with the GD diagnosis. We'll see what comes in the next few weeks.
9) What’s your beverage of choice at night? I confess that I am an iced-tea junkie. But again, since I have been pregnant I have tried to stay away from it as much as possible. Water is now pretty much all I drink.
10) What would you most like to know about your fellow bloggers who read this? I want to know why they started blogging. What was it that made this form of communicating and interacting with others interesting to you?
******
Thank you all so much for your supportive comments on my last post. This whole situation is still very discouraging, but I am tryng to just accept it for what it is and roll with it. I need to stop googling blood sugar levels, and the possible results of GD. I have an appointment with Dr. U on Wednesday, and I'm hoping that he can provide me with some context and maybe some hope. If insulin is in my future, then I guess I will deal with that. I just can't seem to shake the worry and fear.

Sugar Doll Award
Happy Friday, Humble Readers!
(not that Friday means anything in my world... I work all weekend. *sigh*)
The lovely and very sweet Elana bestowed this honour on me a few weeks ago and I have super deliquent in acknowledging it and passing it along.
So, the rules (and there are ALWAYS rules!): I have to say 10 things about myself (I'm going to try to make them sweet things in honour of the name of the award) then give this award to 10 fellow bloggers. Hold on to your hats!
10 Things About Me:

10 Things About Me:
- My favourite movie theater snack is hot buttered popcorn with m&m peanuts thrown in.
- I'm not much of a baker, but I make an incredible cinnamon loaf. Yum!
- Watermelon is my new favourite food.
- In my freshman year of college, I wrote a fairy tale starring a group of my friends.
- I not-so-secretly adore boy bands.
- I am currently working on building my library of children's books (the employee discount won't last forever).
- Our nursery is going to be elephant themed, and I have found the most adorable elephant stuffies.
- I make a killer bbq sauce. And don't ask, I will NOT give out the recipe (based on a recipe of my aunt's). Every cook needs a secret recipe or two. But let me know when you're coming over, and I'll make you some ribs (or chicken for those who don't eat pork)
- My sweetest memory of my grandpa Bob... our last conversation. It was a goofy conversation about the family's dogs and what their lives would be like if they ran a nightclub. (Grandpa was a bit odd!) He was in the hospital, and we were laughing so hard that we got in trouble from the nurses.
- When I was a child I had two nicknames... Pickles and Fred.
- Minta at Life Family and the Pursuit of Sanity
- Kelli at No Lingerie Here
- Soo See at Holy Moly Toledo(s)
- Amy at Canadian Home
- Idgie at Long and Winding Road
- Alana at Alana-isms
- Kristin at Dragondreamer's Lair

The Long and the Short of My Crazy Family
Happy Thursday Humble Readers!
Mel (the fantabulous Stirrup Queen) has a new little project that she has tied into this month's Virtual Lushary. Stop by her place, place your drink order and give the group an update of what's going on in your corner of the world. Then, leave a fascinating little tidbit about yourself... truth or fiction.
My little tidbit just happens to be true. My family really is THAT crazy!
My grandmother (foster grandma) is the oldest of 21 children. Great-grandma and great-grandpa were obviously very fertile. Grandma used to tell stories about the outhouse, how it had different sized 'seat' holes to accomodate all the different people in the family. Grandma's youngest sister is actually younger than Grandma's oldest child, my late Uncle J.
At one point in my life I had six... count 'em up, six parents. Mother, father, step-dad, step-mom, and my foster parents (who are referred to as Mom and Dad on this blog).
And just to add that Springer-esque flair to my tale... my sister, who is going to be celebrating her 10th wedding anniversary next month, met her wonderful husband at her first wedding (yep, you read that right), where he was the second groomsman.
I won't go into some of the other wackiness because I don't want to scare you all off.
******
I want to say thank you to all of you, Humble Readers, for your kind words and support. My symptoms did indeed make a resurgance, and I am feeling pregnant again. Less than five days until we get to see the heartbeat!

Award Season...
Howdy Humble Readers!
Well, I missed most of the Oscars last night, but that's okay, because I didn't get to see many of the movies beforehand. So much for that on my to do list for this year.
Buuuuuutttt... just because the award season is wrapping up now doesn't mean that there aren't still awards to be announced!
Last week, Soo See over at HolyMoly Toledo(s) honoured me with Happy 101 award... Thank you so much Soo See!
When you receive the Happy 101 Award, you have to list 10 things that make your day and then list 10 blogs worthy of this award. Post a link to the blogs you nominate, and make sure you let them know that they have been nominated!
I thought, for this round of bloggy love, I would honour some people who have recently honoured me by becoming honourary hobbits (that would be new followers). Thank you guys for reading, commenting, and joining me on this journey. I'm still getting to know many of these ladies, but they all totally rock!

- Erica at Diary of an Infertile Mad Woman
- Mrs. Spock
- Jess at A Little Blog About The Big Infertility
- Steggie at Crazy Cat Lady
- Eileen at We Got Hitched, We Bought the Four Bedroom House, Now What?
- Jessica at This Is Worthwhile
- Baby On Mind
- Crunchy Baby Mama
- Stephanie at The Dreamer and The Realist
- Kate at Busted Plumbing
- Cooking... I know, if you stop by regularly, you are VERY aware of my passion for good food. I love trying to replicate new tastes, and trying new recipes. I love love LOVE that my Beloved isn't a picky eater and that he is patient with my experiments.
- Reading... Since I was just a wee hobbit I have been addicted to books. I adore getting lost in a great story.
- The ring tone on my cell phone that indicates I've gotten an email (often comment notifications). I'm that much of a geek, that I get a thrill knowing that someone has read what I have written and has taken the time to comment on it.
- Green tea lemonade... Venti, extremely light ice. Yum!
- When my Beloved comes home for lunch... at least half the week I work in the afternoon/evening so I don't get to see my Beloved, so he comes home for lunch so that we get some time together every day.
- Stolen time... when I am able to sneak in moments for myself. To read, to veg, to pamper myself with a home facial.
- A new do... something I am in desparate need of. I honestly don't have a great opinion of my physical appearance, but the look on my Beloved's face when I come home with a new cut and colour... that makes me feel great!
- Ik.ea... I just recently got a new catalog from them and have spent a fair bit of time day dreaming about how I would love to decorate our hobbit-hole. It's a good thing that we don't have one of those stores in our little city, because I would be there all the time.
- The combination of sweet and savoury... specifically m&m peanuts mixed in with hot buttered popcorn. It makes going to the movies expensive, but man it's good!
- My mp3 player... it makes the hours at work before and after we are open for business

Sock It To Me!
Good Afternoon Humble Readers!
So guess what arrived in the mail today?
The super-cool-crazy-awesome-smurftastic Nancy of TheNewLifeOfNancy was my sock buddy and she went above and beyond! Three pairs of socks, all of which completely rock!
So guess what arrived in the mail today?
The super-cool-crazy-awesome-smurftastic Nancy of TheNewLifeOfNancy was my sock buddy and she went above and beyond! Three pairs of socks, all of which completely rock!
The first is the pair I am wearing right now... the ultimate in stripey socks! Purple, over-the-knee, and completely cool!
The second pair are some really groovy knee-high argyles. Purple, green, blue grey, brown, white and black... I'm going to wear them to work tomorrow.
Nancy sent me an email last week letting me know that she was late but that my socks were on their way, and that they were some 'bad-ass socks'. I wasn't sure what she meant but I totally get it now! The third pair are the perfect rebellious socks! Black and white checks, with skulls and cross bones!
The theme for this round of SITM is the support we get in this community. I can't begin to imagine how I would have gotten through this past year without the ALI (adoption/loss/infertility) community. From the laughs, giggles, and rolling-on-the-floor-can't-breathe funny moments, to the words of encouragement and virtual hugs that come at just the right time, and the helping hands that pick me up when I fall, every day I am thankful that I was introduced to this 'place'.
My Beloved asked me today why I was so excited about getting socks from someone I've never met... and I told him, that's just the point. I have never met any of my IF sisters (and a few brothers) out there face to face, but I value your thoughts, words, and stories. I see these socks as one of the few tangible expressions of our support that we have of each other. And I will cherish these socks... and wear them every chance I get!
Thanks Nancy!

Riding The Bench (Blame It On the Olympics)
Good Morning Humble Readers...
As the ol' witch (that would be AF) is packing her bags, and I'm still buzzing from the Canadian women's hockey team's gold medal win last night, I can say that the dark cloud that decended almost two weeks ago is starting to break up and the sun in shining through again.
Literally, and figuratively.
And it's so much easier to be a happy hobbit when the sun is shining.
So, this morning when I read Minta's post about feeling guilty about celebrating her pregnancy (and about bemoaning the physically difficult and painful aspects of it), I couldn't help but have a bit of a grin on my face.
Before I continue, I should reiterate that this hobbit hasn't ever really been one for team sports, and I certainly could live the rest of my life and never watch another NHL, CFL, or NBA game on tv ever again. I love the olympics, but once every four years is plenty for me.
All that said, I couldn't help it when a very bad sports metaphor came to mind as I read Minta's post.
We're a team. All of us IFers, and our irl support networks. We work together, sharing information and support, caring for each other when we fall, and striving towards our shared prize, building our families.
We all want that chance to play in the big game, to have our time on the field/ice, to have a chance to score that big goal... of bringing a baby into our lives.
But we all don't get to play at the same time.
Some of us are stuck riding the bench for longer than others. Yes, we can get frustrated when we feel we've been waiting for our turn for a long time, BUT that doesn't change the fact that we are still cheering on those who are getting to play.
The only thing that makes riding this bench bearable is seeing fellow IFers playing their hearts out and succeeding... getting that prize. The prize that I know they long for just as much as me.
So, to my teammates, my fellow journey-ers on this ever lengthening road, please, when you get the chance to play... PLAY! Enjoy yourselves! And if you twist an ankle or get checked into the boards (lame metaphors, sorry), it's okay to moan, it's okay to take some time to nurse your wounds. I'll even offer you a virtual ice pack, and help you back to your feet.
And listen for the sounds of us, still on the bench, cheering you on! When you score that goal, we'll all come running, clearing the bench to hoist you on our shoulders, celebrating your victory.
(told you it was a terrible metaphor)

Beautiful Blogger Award
Howdy Humble Readers!
I have been very remiss. My lovely bloggy friend Alana at Alana-isms gave me this award waaaaay back before Christmas, but I haven't done anything with it. Bad hobbit! So, thank you,
Alana! You rock!
As a part of the award I am to tell 7 random things about me. Hmmmm, what haven't I told you all? Let me think...
1. One of my guilty pleasures... I love a good hot dog. With mustard and onions, with cheese, with chili. Now, I am fairly particular about my hot dogs. All beef, preferably kosher (cause you know you won't be biting into something you shouldn't then), on a good squishy bun. Mmmmm...
2. It's a bit of a family joke, but I regularly end up wearing my food. Usually in the vicinity of my chest (also known as 'the shelf'). Which is part of the reason I am thankful for the oh-so-unfashionable vest that I wear at work. It covers those telltale spots. I also own several of those stain remover pen thingys.
3. One of my addictions... school supplies. I love pencils, pens, blank notebooks, paper clips, staples, binders... the works. I'm not allowed to go into an office supply store unaccompanied.
4. My first pet was a bird. I know, ironic huh? The hobbit who is terrified of birds actually had one as a pet. I don't really remember him/her. All I really know is that it died of a heart attack when we moved. Got a little over excited I guess.
5. I don't like books, movies, or tv shows that I know are going to make me cry. If I cry while watching/reading out of a true emotional response, that's one thing. But those authors or shows that are known to make you cry as a part of their regular formula (any of those makeover shows, Tou.ched by an An.gel types of shows, that Christm.as Sh.oes song). I feel emtionally manipulated, and then I get mad.
6. I am rather competitive. I don't watch a lot of hockey or baseball or football, but when I do, I tend to get a little too into it. Tonight is the International Junior Hockey World final, between Canada and the US. I'm sorry, my humble readers from south of the border, but there will be some dark expletives heading your way should you get too far in front of our boys! ;)
7. In case I haven't mentioned it before, I procrastinate. We finally took down our tree yesterday (I had been planning on it for almost a week) and I still haven't vacuumed up the mess of needles on the floor. (Aren't artificial trees supposed to prevent this kind of mess?)
Now, I'm supposed to pass this award on to 7 other bloggers, but I have discovered in my recent rounds that most of my bloggy friends already have this one. Soooo... if you haven't gotten it, please consider yourself awarded. You are all beautiful in my book!
And please don't forget, it's Delurking week. I want to hear from you! :)
